House Captains will lead, coordinate, and energize their house in pursuit of the House Championship.
Responsibilities
Captains will encourage and support the student representatives from each homeroom in their house and facilitate communication between the student government, faculty, administration, and wider school community.
House captains will not be assigned a homeroom, but will attend student government meetings to support their house.
Captains will encourage and support homeroom teachers in their house and encourage participation in house competitions by visiting homerooms in their house monthly.
Communitas support: Educators assigned to communitas support will welcome scholars to communitas and assist with an orderly assembly.
September - Heart of the Pawn Chess Tournament. Individual play. Points awarded based on the highest ranked player from each House. (1st - 10 Pts; 2nd - 7 Pts; 3rd - 5 Pts; 4th - 3 Pts) Sponsor: Mr. Pepper
October - Fall Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. Each House may enter as many teams as it likes (up to 7-man/woman rosters). Points awarded to Houses based on the highest ranked team from each House for Men’s and Women’s brackets. (1st - 10 Pts; 2nd - 7 Pts; 3rd - 5 Pts; 4th - 3 Pts) Sponsor: Coach Boling
November - Dodgeball. Each House may enter as many teams as it likes (up to 7-man/woman rosters). Points awarded to Houses based on the highest ranked team from each House for Men’s and Women’s brackets. (1st - 10 Pts; 2nd - 7 Pts; 3rd - 5 Pts; 4th - 3 Pts) Sponsor: Coach De La Rosa
December - Christmas / Holiday Sweater Contest. Each House submits top contestants for the most festive and most gaudy categories. Points are also awarded based on house participation percentages. (1st - 10 Pts; 2nd - 7 Pts; 3rd - 5 Pts; 4th - 3 Pts) Sponsor: Mrs. Balestrini
January - Volleyball Tournament. Each House may field up to two teams of six (rosters of up to 10; a House’s teams may not share players). Each team may have a maximum of three boys and three girls on the court. (1st - 10 Pts; 2nd - 7 Pts; 3rd - 5 Pts; 4th - 3 Pts) Sponsor: Coach Heiliger
February - Bard Contest. Each House determines a House Bard who delivers a classic poem, speech, or monologue which is judged against the entrants of other Houses. Elimination rounds conducted in Homeroom, final round in an all-campus Communitas. Points awarded based on the final ranking of House Bard. (1st - 10 Pts; 2nd - 7 Pts; 3rd - 5 Pts; 4th - 3 Pts) Sponsor: Ms. Singer
March - Classical Quiz Bowl. Houses field teams of four who compete in a tournament-style, college quiz bowl format. Teams compete to demonstrate knowledge of classical literature, history, philosophy, science, math, music, and art. Elimination rounds conducted at lunch, final round in an all-campus Communitas. Points awarded based on the final ranking of House Quiz Bowl Team. (1st - 20 Pts; 2nd - 14 Pts; 3rd - 10 Pts; 4th - 6 Pts) Sponsor: Mr. Birsinger and Mr. Slowey
April - Field Day. This is the highest day on the House Calendar. House fortunes will be made or lost given the amount of points that are in play. (1st - 40 Pts; 2nd - 30 Pts; 3rd - 20 Pts; 4th - 10 Pts) Sponsor: Coaches
May - Week before Finals - All members of the winning House (except seniors) receive a week-long casual dress pass for the week before Finals & Pizza Party.
