A Word From the Headmaster

A WORD FROM THE HEADMASTER

Mrs. Brenda Davidson

January 9, 2012

Happy New Year Aristoi Families,

I hope your Christmas break was restful and full of special family time.  During December, our hearts were warmed with classroom discussions of the virtue of charity.  Ms. Davis’ 5th grade class demonstrated charity by sponsoring a school wide toy drive.  I had the privilege of escorting some of our ACA students to donate their toys and was able to witness charity in its purest form.  The children thoroughly enjoyed giving and learned a valuable lesson along the way. This month, both students and staff will study the virtue of prudence.

My husband and I visited our youngest son Joel, and his wife Shea, in Germany over the Christmas holiday.  Our visits to museums and historical sites confirmed why it is so important that classical schools emphasize the study of history so that students better understand the human experience throughout time and place.  Classical education reveals to students the reality that history is often repeated; therefore, those actions that led to good should be emulated and those that led to tragedy or evil should be avoided. In this way, the study of world and American history can reveal the path which will lead our students to become citizens of great nobility and make a difference in the world.  Our mission is to provide the kind of education that gives our students the means to become men and women of virtuous character.  I venture to say that if this had been the mission of all historical leaders, heads would not have rolled.

I want to congratulate our 2011-12 Spelling Bee winner, Pedro Barquin!  Our runner up this year is Katy Browne. Job well done Katy.  We will be encouraging Pedro as he proceeds to the district meet.

PSIA coaching and preparations are underway, thank you MeChelle Lehman and the PSIA team for your hard work and the time you are investing to provide an avenue of academic competition and growth for our students.

I want to express my heart-felt thanks to the PTO and Appreciation Team for the wonderful breakfast, poinsettias, and Christmas dinner party that were provided before the break.  We truly experienced the love and appreciation of our Aristoi families.

An important letter will be sent home to you tomorrow, so please be looking for it.

Sincerely,
Brenda Davidson
